Bill Lane is an award-winning watercolor artist who started drawing and painting as a child in the early 60’s. Growing up in Newport, RI gave him plenty of ocean-related material from which to paint including boats, docks, coastal rocks, the Newport Ferry, etc.
Everyday scenes intrigue Bill the most, whether that be a barren landscape, boats in the harbor or city life on a busy day. He observes how the light plays into the scene and reflects off his subjects. Bill works to capture that light while enhancing the point of interest in the painting.
Bill started serious watercolor painting with Kaye O’Connell in the early 90’s and has attended watercolor workshops taught by Judy Wagner, Paul George, Tom Hughes, Cindy Baron and Joseph Zbukvic.
In addition to being a Signature Member of the New England Watercolor Society, Bill is also a Signature Member of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, a Copley Society Artist and an exhibiting artist member at the Providence Art Club where he teaches. He is represented by Gallery Antonia in Chatham, MA and Art on Spring in Newport, RI.
