ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The Annual Regional Juried Exhibition is a juried show featuring the best of representational painting by New England artists who work in the realist tradition.
The exhibition will be on view in the historic President’s Gallery at the Guild’s 162 Newbury Street location. The entire gallery has been renovated with newly painted walls and LED lighting. The President’s Gallery also features a skylight to allow viewing of paintings in natural light.
Selected artists will have the opportunity to exhibit where the great artists of the Boston School showed their work. Please review the following information and if you have any questions, please call the gallery at 617.536.7660 or e-mail us at BostonGuild@gmail.com.
- Artists must complete and return the entry form by August 1, 2018
- Work must be representational, with a strong academic background.
Prints, including giclees, are not eligible. The Guild has a preference for work done from life rather than photographs. Although works done from photography are not excluded, preference is given to work done from life, especially when the jurors are making the awards.
Accepted media are oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, pastel, graphite, charcoal, pen and ink, and pencil. Please check if using any other medium.
The submission is a flat fee of $50.00 for non-members. Associate members are exempt from the fee. The fee is one amount whether one, two or three images are submitted. One, two, or three images may be submitted. We accept high resolution (at least 300 dpi) digital jpeg images only! No slides or photographs, please.
All submissions should be clearly labeled with the artist’s name, title of work, size, medium, and retail price. All images should be of high quality in order to ensure accurate consideration by the judges.
Prices of the work must be established at the time of submittal; no changes are allowed after a work is accepted.
The director retains the right to exclude work that significantly differs from submitted images or is not appropriately framed. Metal frames and unframed works are not permitted.
All submissions must be for sale with a retail price included. If a painting is sold, artists receive 55% of the sale price.
Jurors select paintings for the show from the images submitted, but awards are determined after the paintings have been delivered to the Guild.
Awards will be announced* and distributed at the Opening Reception & Awards Presentation on Saturday, September 8, 3—5 pm
- First Place: Gold Medal & $500.00
- Second Place: Silver Medal & $250.00
- Third Place: Bronze Medal & $100.00
- Robert Douglas Hunter Award & $100.00
- New England Watercolor Society & $100
- Award(s) of Merit & $50.00
*Award winners are notified prior to the reception.
